Flowspace Network Optimization Named Sustainability Service of the Year

Supply chain impacts account for more than 80% of greenhouse gas emissions and more than 90% of the impact on air, land, water, and geological resources. There is room for drastic improvement within supply chain sustainability, which is why Flowspace is proud to share the company’s recognition in the 2021 Sustainability Awards program. Flowspace’s Network Optimization has been named Sustainability Service of the Year!

The Sustainability Awards honor those who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practices. For-profit and not-for-profit organizations of all sizes submitted nominations to recognize exemplary initiatives and accomplishments as they work to reduce their impact on our environment. 

With e-commerce sales continuing to set records, package deliveries have been forecasted to grow by 80% or more over the next decade. While carbon emissions from online shopping are 36% lower, on average, than those produced by in-store trips (per a 2021 MIT study), transportation and delivery still takes a toll on the environment. The further a product has to travel to a consumer, the more pollution is created. 

Flowspace’s Network Optimization algorithm proactively determines which configuration of fulfillment centers in the Flowspace network will offer the most optimal efficiencies to a merchant. With Network Optimization, merchants are able to keep their shipments within nearby shipping zones (“Zone 1”), reducing shipping distance and the carbon footprint that goes along with it, while accelerating delivery of goods to a consumer’s door. MIT also found that built-out logistics networks, which include urban fulfillment centers like those in the Flowspace Network, can reduce transportation-related emissions by 50%

Further, Flowspace’s software streamlines warehouse operations, reducing duplicated work and contributing to energy cost savings. Flowspace also enables merchants to select premium or custom packaging, including sustainable packaging options through a partnership with noissue, which provides brands and businesses of all sizes access to custom, sustainable packaging.
